Chennai Traffic Update: The Greater Chennai Traffic Police has planned a new traffic diversion on Anna Salai in Teynampet from Sunday, August 17. Officials said the change will be introduced on a trial basis to help construction work in the area.

In April, traffic movement was already altered near the L.R. Swami building junction on the same stretch. Vehicles were redirected towards Cenotaph Road and Nandanam junction as part of the State Highways Department’s project to build a 3.2-km-long flyover. The police confirmed that similar arrangements would now be followed near Teynampet until the work progresses.

Corridor 3 of the 118.9 km network runs 45.8 km from Madhavaram to SIPCOT, with the Madhavaram–Taramani stretch being entirely underground.

In July 2023, a tunnel boring machine (TBM) named Bhavani began operations at Royapettah station to carve a 966-metre tunnel towards Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai. Officials said the machine has now reached close to the station and will complete its breakthrough soon. Contrary to expectations of difficult terrain, the path mainly consisted of sand and silt, allowing for smooth progress, even while passing under Royapettah High Road and the Government Royapettah Hospital.

Another TBM, Adyar, is scheduled to complete its work by October. Once operational, this corridor will improve connectivity across north and south Chennai.
