Tamil Nadu Weather: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued an orange alert and warned of heavy rainfall in multiple districts of Tamil Nadu this week. The rain is expected to affect Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar and Ramanathapuram. The rainfall is predicted to begin on March 10 and continue unabated for four days, till March 14. MK Stalin-led DMK government in the state is likely to declare holidays for schools and colleges.
Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast
Heavy rainfall is expected to worsen on March 11, when Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Thoothukudi will be majorly affected. Sivaganga, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Pudukottai will also receive a significant amount of rainfall on March 11.
The authorities have asked residents to remain indoors during the rain to avoid unfortunate incidents. They have also advised people to take necessary precautions and keep updated regarding weather alerts. The wind speed is expected to touch 45 kmph along the southern coast. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea.
Chennai Weather
Other parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, are reeling under intense summer heat. The RMC warned that the maximum temperature could increase by two to three degree Celsius this week. Chennai and its suburbs are likely to receive light to moderate spells of rain on March 10.
North India Weather
IMD has forecast a fresh western disturbance, moving gradually toward eastwards, to impact the Western Himalayan Region starting from March 10. Under its influence, fairly widespread light to moderate rain/snow, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is expected over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad from March 10-15.
According to IMD, isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall is very likely to lash the northern regions of Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on March 10. Meanwhile, Punjab, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh will receive isolated light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms on March 12 and 13; West Rajasthan during March 13-15 and East Rajasthan on March 15.
Cyclonic Circulation Over Northeast Bangladesh
IMD forecasts a cyclonic circulation brewing over Northeast Bangladesh to bring increased scattered light to moderate rain over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from March 11 to 15. Arunachal Pradesh will receive isolated heavy rainfall from March 11-13, and Sikkim will receive Isolated light to moderate rain/snow during the next seven days.
