Tamil Nadu Weather Update: As Cyclone Ditwah is travelling parallel to the Indian coast and is likely to unleash rain in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry, the India Meteorological Department has placed several Tamil Nadu districts on a yellow alert for torrential rain.
On the other hand, 47 flights have been suspended from Chennai Airport due to anticipated severe weather conditions caused by Cyclone Ditwah. Of all cancelled flights, 36 are domestic and 11 International, which were scheduled for today.
Chennai Weather Today: Strong Winds Due To Cyclone Ditwah
Strong winds and rough sea conditions are currently battering the Capital city, Chennai, as Cyclone Ditwah moves closer. In the weather forecast shared on its X account, the Tamil Nadu wing of the India Meteorological Department has placed Chennai on a yellow alert until 10 am today, on Sunday.

Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Rain Alert In Several Districts
In its latest weather forecast shared as late as 7 am on Sunday, the IMD-Tamil Nadu has issued a yellow alert in multiple districts of the state as Cyclone Ditwah lies 160 km south of Puducherry and 250 km south of Chennai.

The districts that have been placed under a yellow alert for light to moderate rain and thunderstorms with lightning are Atiyalur, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Dindigul, Kancheepuram, Mayiladuthurai, Naggappatinam, Perambalur, Ranipet, Thanjavur, Nilgiris, Thiravallur, Thiruvarur, Tiruppur, Tiruvannamalai, and Villupuram.
Cyclone Ditwah: Waterlogging, Damage Expected In Tamil Nadu
Due to the intensity of Cyclone Ditwah moving north-northwestward, the INM has anticipated that the weather conditions developed due to the weather system may cause inconvenience to citizens by disrupting traffic, waterlogging. Some areas may experience slippery roads due to waterlogging.
Damage to thatched houses, power and communication lines, and tree fall is expected.
What IMD Says About Cyclone Ditwah
By Sunday evening, the system is forecast to pass within about 25 km of the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coastlines.
“It is very likely to move north-northwestwards and reach over the southwest Bay of Bengal near North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by early morning of 30th November,” IMD stated on X.

The Tamil Nadu government has established 6,000 relief camps across the state.
