Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that Cyclone Ditwah will lead to heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coastal regions of several southern states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh. The continuous rainfall is likely to lead to a flood-like situation in the lower regions, leading to inconveniences. The weather department has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences. It also asserted that the northern states are likely to witness a sharp drop in temperature and a cold wave in the upcoming days.
Cyclone Ditwah: Heavy Rain Likely In Southern States
The IMD has issued a red alert for several districts of Tamil Nadu, including the capital city Chennai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai. The weather department has also issued an orange alert for the other districts, such as Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, and Chengalpattu. It emphasised that these districts are likely to witness rain of 20 to 25 cm in the next 24 hours, adding that the residents are also set to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds.
"Similar squally winds of 35–45 kmph, with gusts up to 55 kmph, are also expected over parts of the Arabian Sea adjoining Kerala, Lakshadweep and Maldives," one of the IMD officials was quoted as saying by ANI. Apart from Tamil Nadu, the coastal regions of other states, including Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, are also set to witness heavy rainfall on Sunday.
Northern States To Witness Drop In Temperature
The weather department also stated that several northern states, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, are set to witness a sharp drop in temperature in the upcoming days. The residents of these states are also likely to experience cold waves, especially in the morning hours, leading to inconveniences.
