Residents of Chennai can expect cloudy skies today, with a chance of rain and thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to range from 23°C to 29°C, bringing slightly cooler weather. A 'Yellow alert' has been issued for today and tomorrow, forecasting thunderstorms and lightning.

Similar weather conditions are anticipated on January 19. Over the weekend, light to moderate rainfall is expected across coastal Tamil Nadu, with scattered showers in the interior regions, including Puducherry and Karaikal. Districts such as Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram and Karaikal are likely to experience heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning.

North India Weather

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for dense fog in Delhi-NCR and the western regions of Uttar Pradesh over the coming days. According to the IMD, these areas will continue to experience dense fog and cold waves, particularly during the early hours. The weather department has also predicted light rain in these regions on January 22 and 23, which could further lower temperatures.

The dense fog has disrupted transportation in the national capital and surrounding areas. In addition to Delhi-NCR, states such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar are also grappling with low visibility. Several flights were delayed on Friday, while passengers were seen waiting on railway platforms due to delayed trains.

An Orange Alert has been issued for dense fog in several districts of Western and Eastern Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. These include Siddharthnagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Deoria, Mau, Ballia, Etawah, Mainpuri, Firozabad, Agra, Hathras, Aligarh, Agra and Mathura.

Besides, a Yellow Alert for fog has been issued for districts including Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Moradabad, Sambhal, Badaun, Etah, Farrukhabad, Auraiya, Jalaun, Jhansi, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Banda, Fatehpur, Chitrakoot, Ayodhya, Bahraich, Ambedkar Nagar, Jaunpur, Sultanpur, Prayagraj, Gonda, Balrampur and Shravasti.
