Chennai Rain

In the 24 hours ending at 8.30 AM on Tuesday, light rainfall was recorded in some northern parts of the State. Poonamallee in Chennai received the highest rainfall at 3 cm. P. Senthamarai Kannan, Director of the Area Cyclone Warning Centre, RMC Chennai, said that the rainfall was being influenced by wind convergence and an upper air cyclonic circulation over the west-central Bay of Bengal near the Andhra Pradesh coast.

“It is common for Tamil Nadu to experience such rainfall spells even without a major weather system in the Bay of Bengal. We are closely monitoring weather models for further developments,” he said.

The RMC added that temperatures in Chennai are likely to hover between 32 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, with similar conditions expected across other districts.
