A school teacher was arrested for allegedly supporting Maoists and putting up their posters and banners in Chhattisgarh’s Mohla-Mapnur-Ambagarh Chowki district, police said on Sunday. The arrest of the 25-year-old teacher sparked a protest by villagers including school children who demanded his release.
The teacher, identified as Ramlal Nureti, was arrested on Saturday from Karekatta village under Madanwada police station area. He is a resident of Mahka village under the Sitagon police station area and was working as a guest teacher appointed on a contractual basis at the government primary school in Karekatta village.
Police said he was involved in putting up posters and banners in September last year, in which Maoists appealed to celebrate the 19th anniversary of their outlawed movement. The teacher was arrested under the Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act 2005 and sent to Rajnandgaon district jail.

He was arrested from the school without any investigation. He is a school teacher, not a Naxalite," a protester said as quoted by news agency PTI.
