A sessions court in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor on Friday granted the death penalty to five accused in the murder of Chittoor Mayor and her husband inside Municipal Corporation Office a decade ago, a police official said.
Katari Anuradha and her husband Katari Mohan was killed inside the Municipal Corporation Office in Novermber 25 in an armed attack.
The court pronounced the death penalty to the accused Chandrasekhar, GS Venkatachalapathi, Jayaprakash Reddy, Manjunath and Venkatesh.
Among the convicts, Chandrasekhar was the prime accused, the police official added. He was the nephew of slain Mohan.
According to the information, they had come disguised in burqas and attacked the couple inside the office. They were attacked with knives and daggers before sooting Katari Anuradha dead.

Providing details about the case, the police had said that the attack was carried out following a family dispute.
As the verdict was to be pronouned the the police made special security arrangements. Only the court staff was allowed inside the court premises and public gatherings, rallies, or celebrations were completely prohibited.

Earlier, on October 24, the Chittoor XI Additional District and Sessions Court convicted all five in the double murder case. The court had deferred the pronouncement of the quantum of punishment to a further date.
