A student protest started in Jaipur turned violent soon after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke was allegedly slapped around four times by some people while supporters carried him on their shoulders during the protest on Monday.

The protest was held at Shaheed Smarak in Jaipur, where the CJP members were protesting alleged exam irregularities, paper leaks and unemployment among job aspirants across the country. As per the officials, two accused have been detained in connection with the incident.

What Happened?

Police sources said the CJP chief had just reached the protest venue and was carried by supporters on their shoulders when a few persons from the crowd allegedly slapped him. 

Subsequently, the alleged accused persons were caught hold of by Dipke's supporters, leading to a scuffle among the protesters. However, the cops present at the venue intervened in the situation and controlled the escalating crowd.

Two Youths Detained

Two youths were later taken into police custody on account of allegedly slapping Dipke, and police have started an investigation to determine the actual situation. So far, the police have not revealed the names of the two youths.

Protest Against Exam Irregularities

The CJP has announced a nationwide protest against corruption and paper leaks, asking the government to conduct fair recruitment and examinations. 

So far, protests have been held in Delhi, Pune, Lucknow and Bangalore, with participants seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and carrying placards with similar demands. The party has been campaigning across the country, demanding action over repeated exam and recruitment-related lapses.

Dipke arrived in Jaipur a day before the demonstration to oversee the arrangements for the protest. The local police, after initially rejecting permission, gave permission but under many conditions, stating that the size of the protest shall be 800 only and police deployment shall be made in huge numbers to maintain the law and order situation. The organisers were warned of consequences if they failed to comply with the norms.

Support from Sonam Wangchuk

Sonam Wangchuk has also lent his support to the movement, saying that he would observe a six-week hunger strike if Abhijeet Dipke is arrested in the ongoing protests.
