Bunkers In Border Areas: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs Javed Ahmed Rana, on Wednesday, advocated for the construction of bunkers along the LOC and in villages adjacent to the International borders to ensure the safety of people living in border areas. Rana visited the shelling-affected areas in Medhar to assess the scale of destruction. 

During his visit to affected families, Rana expressed concern for the loss faced by people and assured them of full government support. Holding a meeting with sub-divisional-level officials, Rana urged them to start working on the detailed planning for restoring the affected public infrastructure, HT reported.

Instructing the officers to remain in close touch with the victim's families, the minister urged them to extend all possible support to the mourning families to build their lives once again. On compensation to be given to bereaved households, Rana directed prompt action in this regard.

Earlier, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir said that more individual and community bunkers will be built in the border areas of the Union Territory, affected by the recent cross-border shelling. 

The Centre has already built 7,923 bunkers, including 6,964 individual and 959 community bunkers, in the vulnerable border districts of the Jammu division.

On the other hand, the district commissioner of Poonch, with a team of officers from the district administration, conducted a thorough tour to asses the areas affected by recent cross border and to check how what kind of support or response could be provided to restore hit public safety and infrastructure. 

Kundar interacted with locals in Mohalla Shankar Nagar, one of the areas struck by shelling and firing. He directed the revenue officer to make a comprehensive report on the losses so that immediate relief and rehabilitation measures could be taken.
