A major boost to public transport in Noida and Greater Noida is set to begin from June 12 with the launch of the e-city bus service, aimed at benefiting nearly one million residents across Noida, Greater Noida and Greater Noida West.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to inaugurate the service, under which 110 electric city buses will be introduced in the first phase. As part of the launch, 33 buses will be flagged off from three locations: 11 from Shilp Haat in Noida Sector 33, 11 from the Greater Noida Authority office, and 11 from the Medical Device Park under the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority.

With the project, Noida is set to emerge as the country's largest hub for electric city buses. The e-bus depot in Sector 90 has been planned to support operations of up to 510 electric buses, making it one of the most extensive facilities of its kind in India.

The city is also developing a large charging network under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Around 150 charging stations are being installed at the Sector 90 depot, with five permanent charging units already operational. The infrastructure is designed to charge multiple buses simultaneously.

According to officials, the depot has already received eight double-decker electric buses and 63 standard electric buses. The number is expected to reach 100 by June 15. The Chief Minister has also announced plans to add another 100 electric buses within the next three to four months.

The new fleet will not only serve Noida and Greater Noida but will also support operations connecting cities such as:

  • Ghaziabad
  • Hapur
  • Meerut
  • Agra
  • Aligarh
  • Mathura

Services will be managed through the Sector 90 depot and the Botanical Garden mini bus depot.

The electric buses can run up to 300 KMs on a single charge, and the operator has been instructed to run each of them for a minimum of 200 KMs on a daily basis.

The charges within the city limits have been finalised to Rs 10, Rs 20 and Rs 30 depending on the distance between stations, and the maximum fare within city limits has been finalised to Rs 50. However, fares for intercity routes will follow the rates of UP Roadways.

"No other city in the country currently has such an extensive infrastructure that enables electric buses from multiple districts across western Uttar Pradesh to operate seamlessly through a single network," said SP Singh, General Manager, Noida Authority.
