A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court demanding an investigation into the activities of the 'Cockroach Janata Party' or CJP, and alleged fake lawyers associated with it. The petition calls for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter.

According to a LiveLaw report, the petition has been filed by a person named Raja Choudhary. He has sought an investigation into alleged fake advocates and fraudulent law degrees, claiming that the issues reflect a deeper erosion of professional standards within the legal system.

The 'Cockroach Janata Party' campaign, launched on social media last week, quickly went viral. The digital campaign generated buzz through memes and political commentary on issues like unemployment, education policy, and exam paper leaks.

The campaign started over an alleged comment by Chief Justice of India Suryakant during the hearing of a petition related to granting the status of senior advocate.

During the hearing, the CJI referred to certain "unemployed, media, social media, activists" as cockroaches. Although he clarified his remarks later, the row escalated.

Controversy escalated after website was taken down

The CJP's website suddenly went down on Saturday. Following this, the organisation's founder, Abhijit Dipke, posted on the social media platform X, accusing the government of adopting a "dictatorial attitude."

Dipke claimed that nearly 1 million people had joined the platform. He said the campaign quickly gained popularity, especially among young people and social media users, including millennials and Gen Z.

Recently, the organisation also launched an online campaign demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy and alleged irregularities in the education system.

Dipke claims of receiving death threats

Dipke also alleged that he had received death threats since the campaign began. He said that instead of taking action against those involved in exam irregularities, the administration was targeting this satirical movement.

Information shared through the organisation's backup social media accounts claimed that "1 million registered cockroaches" had been added within a week. Furthermore, the organisation said that its Instagram accounts had gained millions of followers, but access to those accounts was later lost.

Police security increased at Dipke's home in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Police protection has been provided to the residence of Dipke in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.

"We have provided 24-hour police protection to Abhijeet's residence in the MIDC Waluj area," Deputy Commissioner of Police Pankaj Atulkar said.

Police security has been arranged to ensure there is no crowding at his home, as the "Cockroach Janata Party" is currently trending on the internet. Atulkar denied that the security was provided due to threats he has received.
