Coldrif Syrup Ban In MP: The Madhya Pradesh government has suspended the sale of ‘Coldrif’ cough syrup after several child deaths in Chhindwara were linked with the medicine. The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Dr Mohan Yadav, informed about the decision through an X on Saturday.
Expressing sorrow over the loss of lives due to the consumption of medicine in Chhindwara, CM Yadav said that the sale of ‘Coldrif’ has been prohibited across the state.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that those found guilty will not be spared at any cost. Besides the syrup, all products of the company have been banned in Madhya Pradesh.

As per the CM’s tweet, the Tamil Nadu government was asked to investigate the matter, as the company producing the product is based in Kanchipuram. CM further stated that the test report of the product was received early today, leading to the suspension of sales of all the products manufactured by the company.

MP Orders Ban On Coldrif
The order has also been issued by the Office of the Controller, Food and Drugs Administration, Madhya Pradesh, to ban the Coldrif cough syrup.
"As you are aware that deaths of children have been reported in Chhindwara District of Madhya Pradesh. In this regard Office of the Director of Drugs Control, Tamil Nadu, Chennai has informed as the Drug 'Coldrif Syrup', has been declared NSQ (Not of Standard Quality) with respect to "samples is found to be adulterated, since it contains Diethylene Glycol (48.6% w/v), which is a poisonous substance which may render the contents injurious to health. It is directed to stop further sale and distribution of 'Coldrif Syrup' immediately," ANI reported regarding the order.
Tamil Nadu Orders Removal Of Coldrif Syrup From Market
Taking action on the matter, the Tamil Nadu government imposed a ban on the product earlier and ordered the removal of ‘coldrif’ syrup from the market over the product’s possible link to child death in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
According to an official of the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department, with effect from October 1, the sale of the said syrup manufactured by a locally-based company has been banned across Tamil Nadu.
The Tamil Nadu government conducted inspections at the pharmaceutical company's manufacturing facility in Sunguvarchathram, Kancheepuram district, over the past two days and collected samples of the cough syrup 'Coldrif' for testing.
The government-run laboratories have confirmed the presence of the chemical 'Diethylene Glycol' in cough syrup, reported PTI.
Rajasthan Suspends Drug Controller, Takes Key Supplier On Radar
The Rajasthan government has suspended the Drug Controller, Rajaram Sharma, and has stopped the distribution of all 19 cough syrups manufactured by Kayson Pharma after two children died and several fell ill, allegedly due to consumption of cough syrup.
However, releasing an official statement, the state health department clarified that the recent deaths of two children in Bharatpur and Sikar districts were not caused by cough syrup distributed under the state's free medicine scheme.
Behind the removal of Sharma, the Health Department cited quality control failures and alleged interference in setting medicine standards. The state government has ordered a detailed investigation into the matter.
No Cough Syrup For Children Below 2: Home Ministry
Taking cognisance of death reports due to the consumption of cough syrup, the Union Home Ministry has issued an advisory to all the Union Territories and States against the prescription of cold and cough medication to children under two.
