LPG Price Hike: The centre has announced that Indian oil companies will increase the price of commercial Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders weighing 19 kilograms by Rs 993 across all states in India. With this increase, the total cost of each cylinder in Delhi is now Rs 3,071.50, ANI reported. The prices have also been hiked by Rs 261 per cylinder for a 5 kg FTL (Free Trade LPG) cylinder.

The price adjustment comes amid growing concerns about the country's energy security, with heightened tensions in West Asia that may disrupt global oil supplies.

Indian Oil Corporation has confirmed that retail prices for petrol and diesel remain the same, meaning that consumers of LPG cylinders (14.2 kg), as well as petrol and diesel, are protected from fluctuations in international fuel costs.

"No change in prices of domestic LPG (14.2 kg) for 33 crore domestic LPG consumers. No change in ATF prices for domestic airlines (scheduled operations)," Indian Oil Corporation said.

According to the IOC, there has been no change in prices for domestic LPG for approximately 33 crore consumers or for aviation turbine fuel (ATF) for domestic airlines. 

"Overall, approximately 80 per cent of petroleum products have witnessed no change in prices, ensuring stability for the majority of consumers. Prices of Bulk and commercial LPG cylinders (less than 1 per cent of total consumption) have been revised. Prices of Bulk Diesel and ATF for international airline operations have been adjusted upward. At the same time, around 4 per cent of petroleum products have seen a downward revision, reflecting the dynamic nature of global price movements," the IOC added.

  • Chennai: Rs 3,237
  • Pune: Rs 3,084

The prices of bulk and commercial LPG cylinders account for less than one per cent of total LPG consumption, and likewise, the prices of bulk diesel and ATF charged to international airlines have all been raised. In addition, there have also been price decreases for about four per cent of petroleum products, which reflect the changing dynamics of the international petroleum market.

The 5kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder was designed primarily for small businesses and has little to no subsidy. Due to its limited commercial use, the price of the 5kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder will be less sensitive to fluctuations in the global marketplace as compared to the other LPG cylinders.

The IOC states that these actions reflect a coordinated response by the petroleum ministry and oil companies to provide protection to domestic consumers, while at the same time balancing international pricing pressures through the use of expanded price reporting requirements among producers.
