Congress CM Candidate In Haryana: With most Exit Polls showing a landslide victory for Congress in the Haryana assembly polls, speculations sparked over who will become the Chief Minister in the new government. Congress, which might come back in the state after ten years of political drought, has many claimants to the top post, who have, in one way or another, expressed their desire to assume the reins.
One of the top contenders and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda again reiterated that it would be the High Command who will decide on the name of the CM - a position he has maintained since the sounding of poll bugle in the state.
Exit Polls showed an astounding victory for the Congress party with several predicting a 44-61 seats range for the grand old party in an assembly of 90 constituencies. Jagran Mahapoll also predicted around 57 seats for the Hooda-led state unit of the Congress while putting CM Saini-led Bharatiya Janata Party at 22 seats.
However, a visibly elated Hooda claimed that the party would emerge victorious on many more seats.
"We are expecting to win many more seats. Under the BJP, law and order has become worse, corruption has increased, and sports have not been spared too," he said.
On being asked about claims made by party MPs Kumari Selja and Randeep Surjewala for the top post, Bhupinder Hooda said, "This is democracy. Everybody should aspire. You can also aspire. But the MLAs will decide, the high command will decide."
"It (Chief Minister post) is everyone's right. This is democracy. Whatever decision the high command takes, we will accept it. She (Kumari Selja) is our senior leader, he said as quoted by India Today.
When asked about certain speculations that Congress leaders are working on a cabinet formation plan, Hooda dismissed it as hypothetical.
"The high command will decide. These are hypothetical questions," the 77-year-old leader said.
Earlier on Thursday, Kumari Selja, a prominent Dalit leader and five-times MP had said that she would be among those considered for the CM post.
"There will be some people in the consideration zone and I think Selja will be among them," the Congress leader had said in an interview with ANI.
