Congress leader and Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Sunday called the Poonch attack a 'pre-planned stunt' by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Channi said that the attack was a "stuntbaazi" to make the BJP win the Lok Sabha Election 2024. Notably, one Indian Air Force soldier died whereas, four others were injured in a terror attack on a convoy in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch on Saturday.

The attack invoked widespread condemnation by the leaders across the party lines. However, Congress leader Chanarnjit Singh Channi made controversial remarks when a reporter asked him about his views on the attack.

"This is stuntbaazi. When elections come, such stunts are done to make the BJP win. These are pre-planned attacks, there is no truth in them..." he said.

However, Channi's remarks did not go well with the Bharatiya Janata Party which lambasted the leader. Calling his comments ridiculous, Union Minister Anurag Thakur asked the Congress party if the 1962 war, 1965 war and 1971 war were done for winning elections.

"I have a question for Congress were the 1962 war, 1965 war and 1971 war done for winning elections? On such a ridiculous statement Congress president Kharge, Sonia Gandhi & Rahul Gandhi should apologise...They question the ability of our forces...How low will Congress stoop? Will Congress insult our Bravehearts for the sake of winning elections?..." he asked.

Two vehicles came under the fire of the terrorists in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
