Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday criticised Congress for delaying the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP), accusing the party of neglecting farmers while obstructing efforts to support them. Speaking at a public meeting in Dadiya, Jaipur, PM Narendra Modi claimed that Congress' inaction on the ERCP reflects its lack of commitment to farmers’ welfare.

"The Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) was delayed for so long by the Congress, this is also a direct proof of the Congress' intentions. They talk big in the name of farmers but neither do they do anything for the farmers themselves nor do they let others do it," PM Modi said.

The event marked the completion of one year of the Bhajanlal Sharma-led BJP government in Rajasthan, where PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 24 projects worth over Rs 46,300 crore. These projects span sectors like energy, road infrastructure, railways and water resources.

Highlighting the importance of the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal project, PM Modi said it would provide irrigation and drinking water to 21 districts in Rajasthan while boosting development in both Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. He claimed that the BJP’s approach focuses on cooperation and solutions, unlike the Congress, which “promotes” water disputes between states.

“The BJP believes in dialogue, not conflict. We prioritise solutions over disruptions. As soon as BJP governments were formed in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, an agreement was reached on the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal project,” the prime minister said.

He recalled his tenure as Gujarat's Chief Minister when he led a campaign to distribute Narmada river water across the state despite resistance from Congress and NGOs. PM Modi accused Congress of perpetuating water disputes instead of resolving them.

PM Modi also commended the work of Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, praising his leadership for driving development in the state over the past year. “Bhajan Lal ji and his team have worked tirelessly to give new momentum to Rajasthan’s development. This first year has laid a strong foundation for the future,” he said.
