- Sachin Pilot appointed Punjab in-charge, replacing Bhupesh Baghel.
- Bhupesh Baghel now general secretary in-charge for Assam.
- Randeep Surjewala given charge of Gujarat and Karnataka.
Congress on Saturday carried out a major organisational reshuffle by appointing in-charges of states, including election-bound Punjab. The party high command gave charge of Punjab to Rajasthan Congress leader Sachin Pilot, who will replace senior party leader Bhupesh Baghel.
The grand old party made Baghel general secretary in-charge for Assam, in place of Jitendra Singh. Randeep Surjewala was given additional charge for Gujarat. He will, however, continue to be in-charge of Karnataka, which recently saw a smooth transition of power.
Punjab goes to polls early next year while assembly elections in Gujarat will be held later next year.
Why Change Of In-Charge In Poll-Bound Punjab
Congress has been facing critical infighting in election-bound Punjab as former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi has publicly opened a front against the state Congress president, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring. Channi demanded the removal of Warring, which was vehemently declined by Baghel. Following this, dissident leaders, including Channi and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, opposed Baghel for backing the state unit chief and failing to accurately convey local grievances to the high command.
