Sam Pitroda, Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, has once again found himself embroiled in controversy, this time for remarks on India's diversity. Pitroda remarked on the appearances of people across different regions, stating that those in the South "look like Africans," while those in the East resemble Chinese, and those in the West look like Arabs.

Speaking about how India is a shining example of democracy in the world, Pitroda praised India's democratic resilience over 75 years, highlighting the country's ability to foster unity amidst its diverse populace.

"We have survived 75 years in a very happy environment where people could live together, leaving aside a few fights here and there. We could hold a country together as diverse as India, where people on the east look like Chinese, people on the West look like Arab, people on the North look like white and maybe people on the South look like Africans," Pitroda said in an interview to 'The Statesman'.

BJP Reacts To Sam Pitroda's Remark

In response to Pitroda's controversial remark, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad came down heavily on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi."It becomes clear again and again what Sam Pitroda does about India. It is clear that he is a failure. He doesn't understand the country. He is Rahul Gandhi's advisor. I can now understand why Rahul Gandhi speaks nonsense...This is the frustration of defeat. They neither understand India nor its heritage," Prasad told media persons.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla also strongly reacted to Pitroda's remark, calling it shocking, despicable and disgusting. He went on further and said it is the word, spirit, vocabulary and ideology of Rahul Gandhi.

"This is a shocking, despicable and disgusting comment made by Sam Pitroda. He is the mentor of Rahul Gandhi. It is the word, spirit, vocabulary and ideology of Rahul Gandhi... First, they divided based on caste, religion and language. Now, they are dividing Indian vs. Indian. And to make a comment like Indians are like Chinese, isn't it a racist comment?... Isn't it an insulting and objectionable comment? It shows that 'Congress ki Mohabbat ki Dukan actually has Nafrat and Racism ka Saman'..." Poonawalla told ANI.

Sam Pitroda Inheritance Tax Controversy

Earlier, Pitroda had stirred controversy by discussing the concept of inheritance tax in the United States, suggesting it as a potential topic for discussion in India. Following the backlash, Pitroda clarified his remarks, stating that he merely cited the US inheritance tax as an example and emphasised the need for debate on such issues. However, the Congress party distanced itself from Pitroda's comments, stating that they did not reflect the party's views at all.
