The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) will launch a statewide 'Samvidhan Bachao Yatra' aimed at protecting democracy and amplifying the voices of Goans. According to a press release, the campaign seeks to connect with citizens, hear their concerns, and expose the growing failures and corruption of the BJP government.
The Yatra will visit all 40 constituencies of Goa and will be led by senior Congress leaders, including GPCC President Amit Patkar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, MLAs Carlos Alvares Ferreira and Altone D’Costa, South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes, along with other senior party members at the district and block levels.
The Samvidhan Bachao Yatra will begin on June 8 at 4:00 PM from the Mandrem Constituency, starting at the Zilla Panchayat Hall, Mandrem. This initiative aims to expose the BJP government’s deliberate efforts to weaken democratic institutions, silence local voices, and sell Goa’s identity and resources to crony corporates.
As per the statement, GPCC President Amit Patkar said, "The BJP is not just corrupt--it is actively attacking the Constitution by bypassing local governance, ignoring people's voices, and targeting key stakeholders of Goa's economy such as traditional taxi operators, farmers, youth, and women."
The GPCC urged the people of Mandrem and nearby areas to join in large numbers and be part of this democratic movement to reclaim Goa’s future.
"Let us unite to save our Constitution, our identity, and our rights," said the release from GPCC.
Nationwide 'Save Constitution' Campaign
Earlier, Congress launched a nationwide 'Save Constitution' campaign that ran from April 25 to May 30 across the country.
The Congress party decided to counter BJP’s disinformation on the National Herald issue by having senior leaders hold press conferences nationwide, following a meeting chaired by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. After the Ahmedabad AICC session resolution, Congress held 'Samvidhan Bachao' rallies at state and district levels from late April to mid-May, followed by a door-to-door campaign to protect the constitution.
