Vice President Oath: CP Radhakrishnan, 67, who won the Vice Presidential Election on Tuesday by bagging 452 votes, took oath as the 15th Vice President of India on Friday. His rival and Opposition candidate, B Sudershan Reddy polled 300 votes.

President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath to Radhakrishnan at a brief ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan this morning in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dressed in a red kurta, the NDA leader took oath in English in the name of God.

Radhakrishanan Defeats Reddy By 152 Votes
Radhakrishanan won the vice presidential election on Tuesday, defeating the joint opposition nominee B Sudershan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes.

Jagdeep Dhankhar Attends Oath Taking Ceremony
The election was necessitated due to the sudden resignation of the then incumbent, Jagdeep Dhankhar, on July 21 over health issues. Dhankhar also attended the ceremony, his first public appearance since his resignation as VP.
Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP president JP Nadda were among those who attended the programme. Former vice presidents Hamid Ansari and Venkaiah Naidu were also present at the ceremony.
Who Is CP Radhakrishnan?
Born on October 20, 1957 in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan got his early education in a local school in Tiruppur. He has done his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from VO Chidambaram College in Thoothukudi district. He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at the age of 16. He has been an active voice for the BJP in Tamil Nadu.
The two-time Lok Sabha MP from Coimbatore held important parliamentary roles, such as Chairman of the Standing Committee on Textiles and member of committees on PSUs and Finance.
He also served as the BJP president in Tamil Nadu in 2004. Radhakrishnan was appointed Jharkhand's Governor in 2023. He also served as the Governor of Maharashtra till he was elected for the VP post.
