Cyclone Fengal Alert: The upper air cyclonic circulation over the Indian Ocean is expected to cause the formation of a low-pressure region over the Bay of Bengal on Saturday (November 23), according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has issued another cyclone alert in the Bay of Bengal. This might then worsen into a depression and eventually a cyclone.
Additionally, between November 21 and 26, the weather service has issued an orange advisory for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. The orange warning indicates "very heavy rainfall" with a range of 115.6 to 204.4 mm.
The weathermen warned of "very heavy rainfall" on Thursday, November 21, stating that by 8.30 am, an upper air cyclonic circulation had developed over the equatorial Indian Ocean off the coast of Sumatra and the nearby south Andaman Sea in lower tropospheric levels. A low-pressure region is anticipated to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal on Saturday, November 23, under its influence.
The IMD in its advisory on Thursday morning stated that it is anticipated to continue its west-northwestward movement and deepen into a depression over central sections of the south Bay of Bengal during the course of the next two days.
The depression, which Saudi Arabia has suggested be named "Fengal," will be the second cyclone of the season following Cyclone Dana if it intensifies and turns into one. Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka's east coast may be affected by the system.
According to Thanthi TV, which cited weather bloggers, there is a significant chance that the cyclone would also pass by the Chennai coast.
The cyclone's course and effect area over coastal Tamil Nadu, however, are yet unknown, according to weather blogger K Srikanth, who manages the well-known social media account Chennai Rains.
The weather agency further stated that light to moderate rainfall, coupled with isolated thunderstorms and lightning, is expected in a few locations in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Thursday due to weather systems that are building in the sea. An orange alert has been issued because of the possibility of isolated, extremely heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on November 26.
