Multiple flights to and from Chennai have been affected because of the inclement weather before the landfall of the Fengal Cyclone in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Chennai International Airport (CIA) on Saturday suspended all the flight operations from 12.30 pm to 7 pm amid safety concerns from the stakeholder airlines in the light of the forecasted crosswinds. 

“In light of Cyclonic Storm 'Fengal' and the forecasted high crosswinds, as predicted by IMD, Chennai Airport operations will be suspended from 1230 hrs to 1900 hrs on 30.11.2024 (today) following safety concerns raised by stakeholder airlines. We recommend passengers check with their respective airlines regarding their flights. Stay tuned to this space for further updates! " Chennai Airport posted on its X handle.

Air India, in a post on X, informed that flights to and from Chennai are getting affected due to the poor weather. “Flights to and from Chennai are getting affected due to inclement weather and heavy rains,” Air India posted on X.

Apart from Air India, IndiGo also informed the passengers that flight services in multiple cities, including Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, and Tuticorin, were impacted. "The current weather conditions continue to impact flights to/from Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Tuticorin, and Madurai, with Tirupati and Vishakhapatnam now also affected," read the airline’s travel advisory.

The Chennai Airport's X handle later informed that IndiGo had temporarily suspended all flight operations and it will resume after improvement in the weather. "IndiGo Airlines @IndiGo6E has temporarily suspended all arrival and departure flight operations at Chennai Airport due to adverse weather conditions. Flight operations will resume once the weather improves, prioritising the safety of passengers and crew. We recommend passengers check with their respective airlines for real-time updates," the statement from the airport read.

The airport also stated that several of the flights were diverted because of the poor weather and advised passengers to confirm the status of the flights with their respective airlines.
