Rispana To Dharampur Flyover: Dehradun is set to get a major infrastructure upgrade with a new flyover aimed at easing the city's growing traffic woes. The proposed flyover will run from Nehru Colony T-point to Dharampur Chowk, a stretch currently plagued by severe congestion especially around the Rispana Bridge, one of the city's busiest intersections.
With vehicle numbers increasing rapidly, Dehradun’s roads especially around central areas like Rispana and Dharampur are struggling to cope. The situation has worsened to the point where even widened roads are proving insufficient. The proposed flyover is being seen as the only practical solution to decongest the stretch, as reported by Jagran.com.
Dehradun New Flyover: Key Details of the Proposed Flyover
- Length: Approximately 1 kilometre
- Design: Four-lane flyover
- Current Road Width: Two to three lanes
Officials have noted that despite previous widening efforts under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme, Dharampur Chowk remains overwhelmed due to high vehicle volume. During red lights, vehicles coming from Rispana occupy around 80 per cent of the road, creating bottlenecks and making it extremely difficult for vehicles from Mata Mandir and Racecourse sides to pass through.
Given the current traffic pressure and limited road space, officials believe that building a flyover is the most viable way to ease congestion in the area. The flyover is expected to streamline vehicle movement and reduce delays significantly.

The feasibility report will cover more than just the technical usefulness of the flyover. It will also map out the alignment and identify land that may need to be acquired. This will help determine the total cost of the project, including expenses related to relocating utilities like electricity and water lines. This data is essential for smooth decision-making and future planning.
The Rispana Bridge was originally designed to handle 2,900 Passenger Car Units (PCUs). However, the current traffic load has skyrocketed to over 16,400 PCUs more than 5.5 times its capacity. This massive overload highlights the urgent need for infrastructure upgrades in the area.
