A Microsoft outage on Friday caused massive disruptions at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Friday, leading to the cancellation of 47 domestic flights and delays for about 170 flights. Passengers faced severe inconvenience, resulting in widespread frustration across the country as the cloud services outage brought the aviation industry to a standstill on Friday.

The outage caused significant delays, particularly during the peak noon hour for domestic flights. Many planes were held in the terminal bay for extended periods as the passenger boarding process was unusually slow. Aircrafts that were scheduled to depart within minutes had to wait for over an hour, causing a backlog that affected arriving flights as well.

With the server down, all processes from check-in to boarding and baggage tagging had to be done manually. Handwritten boarding passes were issued, resulting in long queues at various counters. The non-functioning DigiYatra gates further exacerbated the situation, causing delays in passenger entry. Many passengers waited five to ten minutes at the gates, leading to further congestion inside the terminal.

Airlines tried their part to manage the situation by issuing advisories to affected passengers. They were informed via messages to check their flight status on the website before heading to the airport. Passengers were advised to arrive four to five hours early to mitigate the impact on the check-in process, ensuring smoother departures.
