Delhi Air Pollution: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Tuesday revoked GRAP-4 restrictions in Delhi-NCR after the air quality improved marginally in the recent days. The central agency stated that the increased wind speed has improved the air quality, adding that the situation is not likely to change in the next few days. The Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital was recorded at 378 on Tuesday in ‘very poor’ category. While the AQI of some of the regions crossed 400, it remained around 270 in most of the areas. The CAQM had imposed GRAP-4 restrictions on January 17 after the AQI was calculated over 400 on Sunday and Monday.
While providing details, the authority stated that the AQI of Delhi is set to remain around 370 in the upcoming days. “Owing to favourable meteorological conditions and an increase in wind speed, the AQI of Delhi has shown improvement and was recorded as 378 (‘Very Poor’) on 20.01.2026. Further, IMD/IITM forecasts indicate that the AQI of Delhi is likely to remain in this range in the coming days,” the central agency stated.
“In view of the above, the Sub-Committee has decided to revoke with immediate effect its order dated 17.01.2026 invoking actions under Stage IV (‘Severe+’ Category, AQI > 450) of the extant GRAP,” the statement added. However, the authority clarified that it will continue to monitor the situation. Apart from this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that the air quality of the national capital will remain in 'very poor' category for the next few days.
“The Sub-Committee shall continue to closely monitor the air quality situation and review it periodically for further appropriate decisions based on AQI levels and forecasts issued by IMD/IITM,” the CAQM asserted. The weather department has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings.
