Delhi Air Pollution: The Supreme Court on Wednesday, November 19, asked the Commission of Air Quality Management (CAQM) to consider issuing directives to the schools in Delhi-NCR to defer outdoor sports activities and competitions scheduled for November and December.
The Supreme Court stated that the sports activities should be rescheduled for later months when the national capital's air quality is expected to be safer. This comes after Delhi’s AQI remained alarmingly high on Wednesday, with the national capital recording an average of 392 at 9 AM.
Advocate Aparajita Singh informed the Supreme Court bench that several schools in Delhi-NCR are scheduled to hold sports activities in November, at a time when air quality is at its worst, Live Law reported.
“Children are most vulnerable, holding sports now is like putting them in gas chambers,” Live Law quoted Aparajita as saying. Considering the submission, the Supreme Court bench requested the CAQM to consider issuing a directive that would mandate Delhi-NCR schools to shift their outdoor sports activities to months when air quality is safer.
