Delhi-Alwar RRTS Corridor: Good news for passengers, the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project from Sarai Kale Khan to Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror (SNB) in Rajasthan, connecting Gurugram has reached a decisive stage. Tenders have been issued to hire a General Consultant (GC) to serve as the technical advisor, project manager, and quality controller during the design and construction phases.

At present, the Delhi–Meerut RRTS is operational, connecting Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut. The Delhi-Gurugram corridor, part of the future Delhi-Gurugram-Rewari-Alwar corridor, is a separate project. This move marks the first concrete step toward linking Meerut and Gurugram via Sarai Kale Khan station in Delhi through a 100-minute high-speed commute.

“The General Consultant will be a proactive partner of NCRTC in successful implementation of the project,” read the documents, as per News18.

The Delhi-Gurugram corridor’s first phase, the Delhi-SNB corridor, is set to begin construction in August 2026. Eight RRTS corridors have been proposed to connect Delhi with nearby towns. Three corridors: Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut, Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar, and Delhi-Panipat-Karnal are prioritized for the first phase. According to the NCRTC website, the Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar corridor will have 22 main line stations up to Alwar in Rajasthan.

The yet-to-be-inaugurated Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station will serve as a major interchange for the three prioritized corridors.

With the RRTS, a commuter from Meerut can reach Gurugram in approximately 100 minutes, with a seamless interchange at Sarai Kale Khan comparable to the current Metro travel time from Vaishali to IFFCO Chowk, subject to final service plans and commissioning of both corridors.

The Meerut-Delhi journey on the RRTS will take about 50–55 minutes. While no official travel time has been confirmed for the Delhi-Gurugram segment, an official estimates it could take 40-45 minutes, according to News18 report.

Currently, the RRTS and Metro share two stations in Delhi: New Ashok Nagar and Anand Vihar. The Metro takes about 30 minutes and costs Rs 32 for this journey, requiring a train change due to the lack of a direct link. The RRTS covers the same distance in six minutes for Rs 30.
