Delhi Assembly Election 2025: As Delhi gears up for assembly election in February 2025, the political parties are luring voters through various announcements. While the Aam Aadmi Party is looking for a hattrick of victories in the state, the BJP will try to form a government in the national capital after more than 2 decades. The Congress will look to make a comeback in the state after two disastrous elections in which the grand old party failed even to open the tally. To understand the dynamics of election better, it is crucial to know the difference between Delhi Near Capital Region (NCR) and National Capital Territory (NCT).
Difference between NCR and NCT
The NCR and NCT stands for completely two different geographical areas. The politics and administration in these regions are different and have different rules and regulations to follow. National Capital Territory is a special Union Territory of India, governed by the central government and the elected government of the region.

NCT consists of the metropolitan regions of the national capital along with nine districts and 59 census town and 300 villages. Some of the prominent agencies of NCT are Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Corporation, and Delhi Cantonment Board.
NCR stands for National Capital Region and is very different than NCT. The NCR comprises of the regions around the national capital which include cities like Faridabad, Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad etc. The region was expanded to include the nearby regions of New Delhi such as Sonipat, Bahadurgarh, Meerut etc. While it does not have any legal jurisdiction, it gained prominence as a satellite town to ease up the burden from New Delhi and develop the nearby regions for the industrialisation and other purposes.
It was also seen as an effort to decongest Delhi and to distribute the population. Regions from different states were included in this region for an overall and balanced development. While Noida and Ghaziabad are from Uttar Pradesh, Gurgaon and Faridabad are part of Haryana.
