Nuh has yet again made headlines after reports surfaced that Delhi car blast terrorist Dr Umar Nabi stayed in the city after fleeing Faridabad during the crackdown on the white-collar terror module. Nuh borders Rajasthan, where ammonium nitrate is used for illegal mountain mining. Therefore, the area has an abundant availability and consumption.
According to a report by Jagran.com, while selling ammonium nitrate openly is against the law, local shopkeepers, driven by greed, are posing a significant threat.
Ammonium nitrate is flowing from Nuh to various districts in southern Haryana. The volatile chemical, often used in fertilizers, was used in the Delhi explosion. Although the government has issued strict orders against illegal sale of the chemical, there has been no visible impact on the ground. The sale is being made without entry on the registers. At the ground, those who know it is systematically sold are not short of the chemical, but those unaware are denied access.
Nuh continues to sell unchecked
The Dainik Jagran team investigated the sale of ammonium nitrate in Nuh, Faridabad, Rewari, Palwal, and Sonipat districts of southern Haryana. Now that the scandal has struck, shopkeepers are reluctant to speak openly, nor do they trust strangers. It was discovered that a large amount of ammonium nitrate is being secretly supplied to known individuals. In fact, in the case of this type of fertilizer sale, shopkeepers often ignore the rules in order to sell it black, as they profit more.

During an investigation in Nuh, two shops reported a stockpile of 89 kg of ammonium nitrate. Other fertilizer sellers also secretly supply ammonium nitrate as per demand. There are 350 fertilizer sellers licensed in the district, of which 27 are wholesale dealers. However, it is very easy for someone seeking higher prices to obtain fertilizer without an ID, just that you'll have to spend a little more for this.
Dinesh Kumar, alias Dibbu, a fertilizer dealer in Pingawan, supplied 60 kilograms of ammonium nitrate to the terrorist doctors without any ID. The terrorists used it for the explosion.
Jagran correspondent went to the grain market in Nuh posing as a customer. Ammonium nitrate was refused, but NPK fertilizer was said to be available. Citing the heat, he upped the price to Rs 1,700 instead of Rs 1,300 and sold the the fertilizer without an ID.
Shopkeepers are refusing in Faridabad
In Faridabad, the situation is slightly different as ammonium nitrate is not being sold openly but secretly in large quantities. Jagran.com cited sources saying that there is no shortage of ammonium nitrate for the old customers of fertilizer-seed sellers but they are refusing to sell it to unknown people.
Balabhgarh
The shopkeepers are doing this because of the police surveillance. There are 25 fertilizer-seed shops in the district. Vegetable crops are grown in 10 acres in the district. Nitin Mangala and Trilokchand, shopkeepers of Ballabhgarh told that it is not being sold to anyone without an Aadhar card.
Rewari
Monitoring has also begun at fertilizer and seed-selling centers in Rewari. A Dainik Jagran team inspected six different fertilizer and seed centers in the city. However, ammonium nitrate was not found at any of the centers. According to agricultural experts, farmers in Rewari and Mahendragarh do not need ammonium nitrate.
Palwal
Therefore, ammonium nitrate isn't sold there. To determine the sale of ammonium nitrate in Palwal, a Dainik Jagran team posed as customers and investigated various fertilizer and seed sellers' shops. The team first visited shops on New Sohna Road, Committee Chowk, Goods Godown Road, and the Grain Market in Palwal. Shopkeepers there denied the availability of ammonium nitrate.
Deputy Director of Agriculture, Nuh, Virendra Singh Arya said, "All fertilizer sellers have been asked to sell fertilizer through POS machines. If anyone does not follow the rules, action will be taken against him. If any fertilizer seller sells fertilizer at a higher price, action will be taken against him as well."
