"Kheer ki mithas se Budget": Gupta kicks off assembly session

Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday prepared the ceremonial 'Kheer' ahead of the inaugural budget session of the newly elected government in the Delhi Legislative Assembly.

Marking a unique start to the financial proceedings, the newly elected Chief Minister extended her gratitude to those involved in the budget-making process, stating, "A big congratulations to all the leaders, ministers, MLAs, and people who gave their suggestions, as well as our leadership under which we have crafted this budget."

Highlighting the significance of the event, she added, "For the first time, such a ceremony has been held in Delhi. Kheer ki mithas se budget. It has been offered to Lord Ram and will now be served to the people who contributed their suggestions."

What were key expectations from the budget?

All eyes were on Gupta as women in the city expect the announcement of the financial support scheme - Mahila Samman Yojana, which made a lot of buzz during the elections. They were waiting for the first instalment of Rs 2500 under the scheme - a poll promise by the BJP. It is also interesting to see how much fund is allocated to education as previous governments used to share a big chunk for the education ministry.

Earlier, auto drivers, traders and shopkeepers gathered at the Vidhan Sabha to participate in a 'Kheer' ceremony.

BJP MLA Karnail Singh stated, "People from all sections of society, including traders and shopkeepers, have been invited. Today marks the first day of the budget session. 'Meethi kheer, meetha budget'."

"Hope BJP will fulfil its promises in budget session": Atishi

Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Atishi criticised the BJP-led central government, alleging that the promised Rs 2,500 financial assistance for women had not been delivered and expressed hope that the ruling party would fulfil its commitments during the Budget Session, which begins today (March 24).

"The BJP made a lot of promises before the elections. We hope that those promises are fulfilled in this budget session. The first and most important promise was that Delhi's women would receive Rs 2,500 on March 8. Till today, even the registration of that scheme has not started. It is clear that PM Modi lied and betrayed the people of Delhi," she added.

"We hope the people of Delhi are not betrayed in this budget," she asserted.
