Delhi Car Blast: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday took the mother of the suspected driver of the car, which exploded near Red Fort in Delhi, to the hospital for a DNA test. The woman has been taken to a hospital in Pulwama district, where authorities will collect her DNA samples to match them with the remains of body parts found at the blast site.

"We have taken the mother of the suspect to collect DNA samples in order to match with the parts found at the scene of the blast," an official said, as quoted by news agency PTI.

According to officials, the driver of the Hyundai i20 car has been identified as Umar Un Nabi, hailing from the Koil village in Pulwama. CCTV footage has been obtained by the police showing Umar driving the car alone moments before the blast took place, killing at least 12 and injuring dozens of others. The police reached his Pulwama residence on Tuesday morning and took his mother and two brothers for questioning.

According to Umar Un Nabi's sister-in-law, Mazamila, he had not visited his home for the last 2 months; however, the family talked to him on the phone last Friday. Muzamila said that his family had faced a lot of struggles to complete his education, adding that Umar was engaged and was about to get married soon.

"They (security forces) have picked up my husband, brother-in-law and mother-in-law. They asked us about the whereabouts of Umar. We said he is in Delhi. Then they took the three away for questioning. We last spoke to Umar last Friday. He was very attached to my children and loved them a lot. Whenever he visited home, he used to be busy with Cricket. He loved Cricket," Umar Un Nabi's sister-in-law Muzamila said.

"He (Umar) wasn't that kind of man. We faced a lot of struggles to get him educated. We worked hard so that he could stand on his own two feet and take care of us. I cannot believe all this. He was engaged but he was not married yet. He had not been home for the last 2 months. He didn't have many friends. He only used to study. That is all I know," she added.

Delhi Car Blast: NIA Takes Over Probe

The Home Ministry on Tuesday handed over the Delhi blast investigation to the National Investigative Agency (NIA). The blast occurred on Monday evening when a Haryana-registered car near Gate No.1 of the Red Fort Metro Station exploded, killing at least 12 people and injuring dozens.

The NIA was handed over the case after Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday took stock of the investigation and the multi-state searches being conducted in the Delhi blast case. Chairing a meeting at his residence with top security officials, HM Shah issued strict instructions to officials to get to the bottom of the conspiracy at the earliest.

The meeting was attended by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Kumar Deka, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha and NIA Director General (DG) Sadanand Vasant Date, while the Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat joined virtually.

A team of more than 500 security officials has been formed to investigate the blast, while security has been ramped up across Delhi-NCR, with NSG commandos deployed at key installations. More than 1,000 CCTV footage clips are being scanned by investigative agencies, which suspect that the car explosion could have been a suicide attack aimed at causing maximum damage, Delhi Police sources said.
