Delhi Red Fort Blast Updates: Initial investigation into the deadly explosion near the iconic Red Fort in Delhi has hinted that the high-intensity blast may have been a suicide attack (fidayeen attack), and could also be linked to the terror module busted earlier on Monday in Haryana's Faridabad. At least 12 people have died and dozens of others sustained injuries after a slow-moving car exploded near the Red Fort in Delhi on Monday evening.

According to a report by news agency ANI, citing Delhi Police sources, investigators are of the view that the driver of the car, identified as Umar Un Nabi, intended to carry out an explosion at a later date. However, when the Faridabad terror module was busted in the day and a huge amount of ammonium nitrate was seized, he allegedly shifted to a fidayeen-style operation, to maximise casualties and avoid capture by police.

The police are also probing if the actual target of the attack was at another location since the car was moving slowly. Several agencies, including the Delhi Police, FSL and others, are carrying out an investigation. Investigators have traced the suspected vehicle's movements and are now examining possible communication links established before and after the explosion.

According to officials, CCTV footage shows the suspected car entering and exiting the Red Fort parking area shortly before the blast. The driver appears to be alone in the footage. The route towards Daryaganj is now under scrutiny, and more than 100 CCTV clips, including footage from nearby toll plazas, are being reviewed to map the vehicle's entire movement.

Delhi Car Blast: First FSL Report Likely Today

The Delhi Police is expecting to receive the first Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report today in the car blast near Red Fort. The report will provide clarity on the nature and composition of the material recovered from the blast site. The police have also sought information from the Faridabad and Jammu and Kashmir Police regarding the explosives recovered from Faridabad.

It is suspected that ammonium nitrate was used in the Delhi car blast; however, the exact nature of the explosive will be confirmed only after the FSL report. Delhi Police sources, meanwhile, said that nothing resembling an improvised explosive device (IED) blast was found at the scene.

According to the police, the Hyundai i20 car, in which the blast occurred, was allegedly purchased by a resident of Pulwama. CCTV footage has also been obtained showing the car entering and exiting the parking area near the Red Fort with only one occupant. The car had reportedly entered Delhi from Haryana via Badarpur.
