Delhi Crime: Lover Stabs Pregnant Woman To Death On Shahdara Streets, Gets Killed By Her Husband

A dispute arising from an extramarital affair ended with the death of two people in Central Delhi. The incident occurred in the Ram Nagar Area, Shahdara, near East Delhi when a pregnant woman was stabbed to death by her lover in front of the public.

The pregnant woman, identified as Shalini, was a 22-year-old homemaker and a mother of two daughters, as reported by NDTV. Her husband, Akash, aged 23 years, is a rickshaw driver and is now battling for life. The killer has been identified as Aashu, alias Shailendra, aged 34, who was a local criminal and had an affair with Shalini.

The incident took place late last night, October 18, while Akash and Shalini were at Qutub Road to see Shalini's mother. The couple was confronted by Aashu, who emerged unexpectedly and attempted to stab Akash in an unsuccessful effort. The attacker then spotted Shalini in an e-rickshaw and proceeded to inflict multiple stab wounds upon her, according to police reports.

Akash was later stabbed while attempting to rescue his wife, yet he ultimately subdued Aashu. He disarmed the assailant, killing him with his own knife. Shalini was immediately rushed to the hospital along with her injured husband by her brother. 

Her assailant, Aashu, was also taken to the same hospital by the police. However, upon arrival, the doctor announced that both Shalini and Aashu were dead. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Nidhin Valsan, issued a statement noting that Akash had suffered multiple stab injuries during his defense of Shalini.

The police have registered a murder and attempted murder case based on a statement by Shalini's mother, Sheila, while the bodies have been sent for postmortem.

Why Did The Incident Take Place?

Trouble started after Aashu claimed that Shalini was pregnant with his child and was angry with her decision to live with her husband.

According to Shalini’s mother, her daughter’s relationship had been strained for a few years. During this time, Shalini had an affair with Aashu and even lived together for some time. Later, Shalini and Akash resolved their issues and went on to live together with their two children.

This infuriated Aashu, who allegedly claimed he was the father of Shalini’s unborn child, according to police. But according to NDTV, Shalini had made it clear that Akash was the father, which further aggravated the matter, triggering the series of events which ultimately led to her death.
