Delhi News: Delhi Police have arrested three members of the so-called ‘Lifafa Gang’ for allegedly hypnotising elderly people, stealing their jewellery and cash and then replacing them with fake ornaments before escaping.
The arrested men were identified as Roshan (52), Sagar (35) and Deepak (43), all residents of Delhi. Police said the trio used a car with a fake registration plate to approach elderly people travelling alone, offering them lifts and later deceiving them.
The case first came to light after a woman lodged a complaint at the Hari Nagar police station on July 18. She told police that three men had offered her a ride, hypnotised her inside the car and took her gold earrings and Rs 4,000 in cash. Later, she discovered that the envelope they handed her contained imitation jewellery instead of her belongings.
Following the complaint, police began scanning CCTV footage and used Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology to track the suspects. The vehicle involved was found to have a fake licence plate. Acting on a tip-off, police set up a trap near Swarg Ashram Road on October 11. Around 8:15 PM, officers intercepted the suspects’ car after a short chase and arrested all three men on the spot.

During the search, police recovered the vehicle’s original number plate, 22 paper envelopes, imitation jewellery and the car used in the crimes. During interrogation, the accused admitted to their involvement in another similar case reported at the same police station on May 24.
Police said Roshan, the car owner, has 12 previous criminal cases, including one for murder and works as a part-time driver. Sagar, who has 15 criminal cases and Deepak, a contract housekeeper with one previous case, confessed to targeting elderly people for quick money.
The police said further investigation is underway.
