The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has denied a ticket to its sitting Karawal Nagar MLA in its second list of 29 candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections. Instead, the party has fielded Kapil Mishra from this seat. In response to this decision, Mohan Singh Bisht has turned rebel and announced that he will file his nomination for the Karawal Nagar seat before January 17.

"The BJP thinks they will field anyone and he will win. This is a big mistake. Only time will tell what will happen in Burari, Karawal Nagar, Ghonda, Seelampur, Gokalpuri and Nand Nagri seats. I will not contest from any other seat. I will file my nomination from Karawal Nagar seat, before January 17," he said while speaking to ANI.

Bisht, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is a native of the hills. He first contested the Karawal Nagar seat in 1998 from the BJP and won. Despite the constituency having 35 per cent of hill residents, Bisht maintained his dominance in the area for 17 years.

In 2015, the Aam Aadmi Party made a major political shift by fielding Kapil Mishra from this seat. Kapil Mishra defeated Bisht and ended his winning streak. Later, Kapil Mishra left the Aam Aadmi Party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. This time, the BJP gave a ticket to Kapil Mishra instead of Bisht.

Kapil Mishra came into the spotlight in 2015 when his mother, Annapurna Mishra, was a member of the BJP, and the Aam Aadmi Party chose him to contest the election. Annapurna Mishra had been elected twice as a councillor from the Sonia Vihar ward in the Karawal Nagar constituency.
