Anti-encroachment operation is currently underway in Kalkaji’s Bhoomiheen camp to make the land encroachment-free. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is carrying out the drive following an order from the Delhi High Court. The DDA had issued the notice to vacate the area on Monday.

Currently, 5 diggers and excavators have been brought to the site to raze nearly 1200 illegal huts constructed on government land.  The DDA notice read, "Any belongings left inside the huts during demolition will be removed, and the agency will not be held responsible for any damage or loss to personal property,” news agency ANI reported.

In order to avoid any law and order violations, a large number of Delhi Police personnel, along with a paramilitary force, have been deployed on the site.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi joined protestors on the site on Tuesday to register demonstrations against the demolition. The AAP on Tuesday claimed its leader was detained by police when she went to meet the residents of Bhoomiheen Camp in Kalkaji.

Atishi launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, saying that the BJP and Rekha Gupta will be cursed by the slum dwellers.

"BJP is going to demolish these jhuggis tomorrow, and I am being jailed today because I am raising my voice for these slum dwellers. 'BJP aur Rekha Gupta ko jhuggi waalon ki haay lagegi.' ... BJP will never come back," Atishi said a day earlier.

In a social media post on X, Kejriwal wrote, "They ruined Delhi in just three months."
