Mohalla Bus in Delhi: The Delhi government is mulling over rebranding the 'Mohalla Bus Service' to 'Namo Bus' or 'Antyodaya Bus', with 'Namo Bus' being the favoured name. This effort seeks to improve public transit in tight and crowded parts of the city. The service will begin on April 1, introducing 200 new electric buses to boost last-mile connectivity and minimise traffic congestion.
Initially launched in 2024 by the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration, the 'Mohalla Bus Service' aimed to improve transportation in regions with high population density. By adding more buses, including, 12-metre and 9-metre types, to the Delhi Transport Corporation's (DTC) fleet in early April, the present administration intends to broaden this project.
'Mohalla Clinics' was recently renamed 'Ayushman Arogya Mandir' by the government, which follows this idea. BJP legislators have also proposed renaming districts including Mustafabad, Mohammadpur, and Najafgarh, suggesting a larger plan to rename the capital's communities and public services.
It is anticipated that the arrival of these new buses would greatly enhance Delhi's public transit system, providing citizens with more accessible and effective choices for their everyday travels.
AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj and Somnath Bharti flagged off the trial of Mohalla bus service on two new routes in South Delhi. The former AAP government had started the trial of the Mohalla bus service to improve the last-mile connectivity plan in the national capital. The buses on these connected a number of markets, hospitals and malls.
