Delhi Health Scam: Data Assistant Sacked, 2 Juniors Suspended In Rs 650 Crore Fraud; CPA-Drug Supplier Links Under Scanner

Jagran Correspondent: Amid the ongoing investigation into the Rs 650 crore health care scam, another major action has been taken. Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Sushma Jain has terminated the services of data assistant Sumit Singh with immediate effect. Two junior assistants posted at the DGHS office have also been suspended.

According to department sources, this action comes amid an investigation into matters related to the Central Procurement Agency (CPA) and allegations of close ties to private drug suppliers.

According to the order, Sumit Singh has been directed to immediately surrender all government files, documents, laptops, identity cards, and other departmental materials. Sources stated that Sumit Singh had been posted in procurement and supply-related duties for a long time.

Investigating agencies are trying to ascertain the nature of his relationship with certain suppliers involved in the procurement of medicines and medical supplies and his role in the procurement process.

Action Taken Against Two Junior Assistants

Two junior assistants have also been suspended in connection with the case. However, the department has not released their names due to their role in the investigation. The action was taken after examining documents, records, and file movements related to the procurement process.

Previously, five pharmacists and two officials associated with the CPA store have been suspended. Two officials, including former DGHS Dr Vatsala Agarwal, have been jailed. Several senior officials are facing action from the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB). Investigating agencies are thoroughly examining records related to the purchase of medicines, surgical supplies, and medical equipment.

More Than 40 Officers, Employees Transferred

According to sources, the government is taking a tough stance against corruption in the health department. More than 40 officers and employees posted in the CPA and various affiliated offices have been transferred recently. Investigations by the ACB, Vigilance, and other agencies are ongoing. It is believed that the role of more officers and employees may come to light as the investigation progresses.
