Delhi NCR is grappling with a severe heatwave as the maximum temperature is expected to reach a scorching 47 degrees Celsius. This extreme heatwave condition will persist for the next three days, prompting a Red alert in the national capital. There is no rain forecast for the next 4-5 days, but relief may come later with potential rains in the Himalayas due to a western disturbance, which could lead to a cloudy atmosphere in Northern India, senior IMD scientist Naresh Kumar said on Sunday.
The severe heatwave has made life difficult for Delhi residents. "It is a very tough situation because of the heat. People are hardly eating anything and are dependent on liquid diets... The ACs in cars are not performing properly... I am a resident of Delhi, we have faced heat before also, but this time it is unbearable," a local said, highlighting the harsh conditions.
The heatwave is not limited to Delhi, severe heatwave conditions are expected over many parts of Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, and West Uttar Pradesh on Monday. IMD also stated that isolated places in East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Gujarat are likely to experience heatwave conditions.

Meanwhile, Phalodi in Rajasthan recorded the highest maximum temperature of this summer at 50 degrees Celsius on Saturday. IMD advised residents in these regions to take necessary precautions and stay hydrated to cope with the extreme temperatures.
