Delhi Baby Care Fire: Seven newborn babies were killed in a massive fire that broke out at baby care center in Vivek Vihar area of eastern Delhi late Saturday night. The hospital owner, Naveen Kichi, is currently absconding and is believed to have fled to Jaipur.

As stated by the Director of the Delhi Fire Department in a NDTV report, the initial cause of the fire appears to have been an electrical pole igniting, which then set fire to a parked vehicle, eventually causing the oxygen cylinders at the Hospital to catch fire. The fire, which broke out around 11:32 pm, quickly spiralled out of control due to the presence of numerous oxygen cylinders at the facility.

"It is most likely that the baby care center did not possess a No-Objection Certificate (NOC)," said Atul Garg, mentioning the possible lack of proper safety protocols at the hospital.

The newborns, all of whom were on oxygen support, were initially taken out by breaking the window of the back exit. They were then rushed to a nearby nursing home in an ambulance, but seven infants succumbed to their injuries.

Following the incident, the Delhi Police has registered an FIR against the hospital owner, Naveen Kichi, under sections 336 (endangering the life or personal safety of others), 304A (death by negligence) and 34 (criminal activity) of the Indian Penal Code. Delhi Police is currently tracing the absconding owner.
