After three civil service aspirants were killed in the flooded basement of Rau's IAS Study Centre in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar, reports were widespread that several students were missing after the tragic incident. The protesting students claimed the whereabouts of some individuals, who were at the coaching centre during the tragedy, were still unknown.  

However, a student who claimed to be among those missing clarified that he was safe and urged the media to stop using his photo as his parents were getting worried, The Print reported.

Kingsley Kannan told The Print that he has been living with a friend in Delhi's Sultanpur and some friends went to the incident spot on Saturday to look for him. When they couldn't find him, they reported him missing to the media. However, three days later, his photo is still being circulated as that of a missing student, he claimed.   

“I left the library before the tragedy struck. But, there were about 22-25 students who were sitting in the library when I left…I request the media to stop using my photo since my parents in Tamil Nadu are getting worried,” The Print quoted him as saying.

As per Kannan, the aspirants requested the management to open the underground space as a library. However, this was illegal.

As many as 3 students were killed after flood water entered the basement of a coaching institute on  Saturday. The incident sparked massive anger among aspirants, leading students of Rau's coaching centre and other institutes to protest and raise slogans against authorities outside the coaching centre over the deaths.

Authorities also initiated action against illegally constructed buildings in the area.

By Sunday night, the MCD had sealed over 13 such centres in Old Rajinder Nagar that were found to be operating in basements in violation of rules.
