Delhi eerut Expressway Update: The Delhi-Meerut Expressway is set to become a model for toll collection across India. The innovative system being implemented here will soon be adopted for expressways and highways nationwide. This technology will allow vehicles to pass through toll points without stopping, as tolls will be automatically deducted from moving vehicles.

ANPR Technology Implemented At Delhi-Meerut Expressway

The expressway is utilising Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology. Cameras installed at entry and exit points will capture the number plates of vehicles as they pass by. Because the FASTag system is linked to these number plates, tolls will be deducted automatically without the need for drivers to slow down.

ANPR System Likely To Be Installed Soon On All Expressways

This pilot project has already proven successful, prompting officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to announce plans for similar systems on all expressways and national highways. The ministry is working towards eliminating toll barriers entirely, aiming to reduce waiting times for drivers.

While the initial waiting period for this new system is expected to be brief, the ministry is clear that tolls will not be collected using GPS technology. Concerns over the reliability and security of GPS-based toll collection have led to the abandonment of that model. An expert committee recently raised issues about potential problems with GPS, prompting the ministry to seek alternative solutions.
