Delhi-Meerut Expressway Speed Limit Update: In view of dense fog in winter months, the police have reduced the speed limit on the expressways and highways passing through Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district. DCP Traffic Triguna Bisen said that the maximum speed for heavy vehicles on Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME), Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) and National Highway 9 has been fixed at 40 kmph, while for light vehicles the speed limit has been fixed at 60 kmph, jagran.com reported.
At present, the speed limit for light vehicles on DME is 100 km/h, while on EPE, light vehicles can run at a speed of 120 km/h. On NH-9, the maximum speed limit is 80 km/h for light vehicles and 60 km/h for heavy vehicles. The newly implemented speed limit is applicable from 11 pm on Monday till February 15.

SP Traffic Raghavendra Mishra said that keeping in mind the fog, talks will be held with the Project Director of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Amit Pranav on Tuesday to reduce the speed limit of Delhi Dehradun Highway, Meerut-Bulandshahr Highway, Meerut-Karnal Highway, Meerut-Pauri Highway. After this, a decision will be taken on Tuesday to reduce the speed limit of vehicles on the main roads of the Municipal Corporation area.
In another unrelated update, after an accident on the Yamuna Expressway in the early hours of Tuesday, massive traffic congestion was witnessed near the Khandauli toll plaza in Agra. The Agra-Noida lane was completely closed, leading to a nearly three-kilometre-long traffic jam. Thousands of vehicles were stranded on the expressway, leaving commuters stuck for several hours and causing widespread inconvenience, jagran.com reported.
Four persons were killed while 25 others were injured after several vehicles collided amid dense fog on Agra-Noida lane of the Yamuna Expressway around 2 am on Tuesday. The accident took place on the lane heading from Agra to Noida. Six buses and two cars caught fire. Many people were trapped inside the vehicles. While some managed to escape, four people died in the fire. Several others were injured.
