Metro train commuters faced major inconvenience on Tuesday evening after a technical fault on the Delhi Metro's Blue Line left hundreds of passengers stranded for extended periods during peak office hours.

Metro services were suspended from Anand Vihar to Vaishali, further exacerbating commuters' problems. Distressed passengers took to social media to express their frustration over the disruption and the lack of timely updates.

Between Anand Vihar and Vaishali on the Blue Line of the Metro, technical problems started occurring from around 5 pm. Long queues started forming at the stations due to the problem. Around 5:15 pm, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation posted on X that due to some technical glitch, metro services between Anand Vihar and Vaishali are being delayed.

About an hour later, it was informed that the service was halted at both these stations as there was a fault in the OHE. A train also got stuck at Anand Vihar Metro station, leading to massive delays on the Blue Line.

Crowds Swell at Metro Stations

Passengers crowded the stations after the disruption at stations like Indraprastha, Yamuna Bank, Anand Vihar, Vaishali and waited for the services to restart. In the videos and pictures posted on social media, commuters can be seen standing on the crowded platforms and in queues outside the metro station.

Several commuters voiced their anger on social media. One user wrote, "Dear DMRC, you just ruined my day and wasted my precious one hour. Trains are being diverted without timely announcements, and the poor management is leaving thousands of passengers, including senior citizens and children, confused, frustrated, and inconvenienced.”

Another commuter posted, “No metro has been coming since the last 45 minutes.”

One of the busy corridors in Delhi Metro, the Blue Line, connects Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida Electronic City and Vaishali. Daily, the line transports thousands of passengers shuttling between Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad, and offers convenient connectivity to Anand Vihar, one of the busiest railway and inter-state bus termini of the NCR.

Many passengers noted that Blue Line services had faced disruptions due to signal problems just a few days before this. Commuters questioned the efficacy of the corridor as a breakdown hit during prime time. 

The lack of timely response from metro authorities drew ire from many passengers. However, in the evening, DMRC stated that normal services on the line had resumed on the affected portion.
