Noida Ghaziabad Metro Corridor: The Ghaziabad Development Authority has sought funds from the Centre for the expansion of Delhi Metro's Blue Line to connect Noida and Ghaziabad from Noida Electronic City station to the Sahibabad Metro Project.
The project aims to provide direct metro connectivity between key sectors of Noida and Ghaziabad, which has remained missing despite decades of operations and phase-wise expansion of Delhi Metro.
According to a report by The TOI, the GDA has written to the state government to seek Rs 2,441 crore under the 16th Finance Commission. GDA vice chairperson Atul Vats said, "We have written to UP govt. We have quoted a grant of Rs 2,441 crore, out of which Rs 1,873 crore is for the metro project."
Reportedly, the project will benefit 5 lakh passengers who commute to Noida and Delhi from key localities of Ghaziabad, including Indirapuram, Vasundhara, and Vaishali. Vats also added that the DMRC has sent a proposal to the Centre regarding the development of 16 nationwide corridors, which include the Noida Electronic City to Sahibabad metro corridor.
Noida-Ghaziabad Metro Corridor: Details
The stretch between Noida Electronic City and Sahibabad will be 5 km. The elevated corridor will have five platforms: Vaibhav Khand, DPS Indirapuram, Shakti Khand, Vasundhara Sector 5, and Sahibabad stations.
The project is much-awaited and long proposed, but has seen delays in approval. It has been in the pipeline since 2018, but due to the lack of funds, the project failed to move forward.
Initial DPR estimates the cost of the project to be Rs 1,517 crore. Over the years, it has increased to Rs 1,873 crore. One of the key features of the corridor is that it serves as an extended arm of the Namo Bharat corridor, which passes through Sahibabad.
