State Bureau, New Delhi: Daily passengers travelling from Delhi to Millennium City Centre may soon get a major boost in connectivity as preparations are underway for a new metro corridor linking Delhi and Gurugram. The proposed route will connect Yashobhoomi (Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector-25) in Delhi to Rajiv Chowk in Gurugram, offering an additional travel option for thousands of daily commuters.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has already prepared the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project and submitted it to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for approval. Once clearance is received, work will begin on extending metro connectivity from Yashobhoomi near the Dwarka Motorway to Rajiv Chowk, Gurugram.

The planned corridor is expected to extend the Airport Express Line up to Gurugram, making travel between Delhi Airport and Gurugram faster and more convenient. A separate extension connecting Dwarka Sector 21 with Gurugram Sector 21 is also part of the future expansion plans.

With the completion of this project, Gurugram will have three metro links with Delhi. At present, the metro operates up to Millennium City Centre, while construction work on another corridor is already progressing. The first phase of the Millennium City Centre–Sector 9 extension is close to completion.

Metro Connectivity from Gurugram Sector 21 to IFFCO Chowk

Under the second phase, a new metro corridor is planned from Gurugram Sector 21 to IFFCO Chowk. Approval has already been granted for extending the metro network from Dwarka in Delhi to Sector 21, Gurugram.

Rajiv Chowk, one of Gurugram’s busiest junctions, handles millions of commuters every day. The proposed metro corridor is expected to provide passengers with a faster and more reliable public transport option, reducing dependence on road travel.

According to DMRC estimates, the new route is expected to handle around 1.25 to 1.5 million passengers daily. The project was initiated following discussions involving former Haryana Chief Minister and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, based on a suggestion from Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh.
