The Delhi Metro recorded its highest-ever daily passenger journeys on August 13, with a total of 72.38 lakh passengers, surpassing its previous milestone. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) stated Tuesday’s figure eclipsed the earlier record of 71.09 lakh set on February 13, which highlights an increase in commuters using the rapid transit in Delhi. 

"The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has recorded its highest-ever passenger journeys on Tuesday (August 13) with 72.38 lakh passenger journeys being performed across the network," the DMRC wrote on X. 

Journey utilisation is determined by the number of corridors passengers use to reach their destinations and the latest figures indicate an increasing reliance on the Metro system. On August 12, the count was slightly lower at 71.07 lakh, showcasing a consistent rise in passenger journeys.

1. 72.38 lakh - August 13, 2024

Meanwhile, the DMRC has announced that Metro services will commence at 4 am on August 15 to ensure the early travel of people attending Independence Day celebrations. Metro trains will operate with a 15-minute frequency until 6 am, after which the regular schedule will resume. Additionally, individuals holding a valid Invitation Card issued by the Ministry of Defence will be granted access to the Metro upon presenting a government-issued photo ID.
