Delhi Monsoon Update: Delhi has been witnessing extreme weather conditions as both the temperature and humidity levels remain high. Delhiites, who awaited rain after days of monsoon alerts, were deceived on Wednesday as the cloudy skies brought light to no rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for the arrival of monsoon in Delhi on Monday, but the city barely witnessed some drizzle.
Even though the sky remained overcast on Wednesday, it did not rain, and the humidity increased. Meanwhile, heavy to very heavy rainfall was reported in several other states. There are several reasons for no rain in Delhi, even if the weather is favourable. Here's a look at the possible reasons behind the delay in monsoon in Delhi:
Monsoon Delayed In Delhi: Here's Why
Landscape: The national capital is landlocked and far away from the seas. This is one of the foremost reasons for little to no rainfall. The clouds dry up quickly in the sky as the city does not receive moist winds which come from the sea. Further, Delhi has a plain landscape, unlike the hilly areas, where the clouds often collide with mountains and rain heavily.

Absence of Heavy Clouds: Clouds are made up of water droplets. Once the water droplets combine with other water droplets to become heavy, they fall on the ground as rain. The clouds present in the sky in Delhi are not heavy enough to cause rain.
Lack of Low Pressure Belt: The monsoon pressure area, that is, the low-pressure belt, is absent in Delhi, which means that the current monsoon in Delhi is weak to cause rain. The clouds are present, but it is not able to gain enough pressure to rain.
Increased Heat Levels: The dry winds and increased heat levels are one of the leading causes of no rainfall in Delhi. The dry winds and heat are not allowing clouds to rise and rain.
The little drizzle in the past two days has increased the humidity. Due to a lack of rain, heat and humidity are both increasing in the national capital.
