In a major decision, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Wednesday approved the cutting or transplanting of 27 trees coming in the way of the flyover project at Nand Nagri-Gagan Cinema Junction. A statement from PWD suggested that the project will provide a significant convenience to the residents of several key areas by cutting the travel time significantly and reducing the traffic congestion. The authority had stated that the construction of the flyover between Mandoli Prison and the Gagan Cinema intersection has been pending since 2023 due to the hindrances.

“In a major decision that would help clear the last hurdle in the way of infrastructure development in Northeast Delhi, L-G VK Saxena has granted approval for the exemption of a 2.16-hectare area for transplantation/cutting of 27 trees for a flyover project at the Nand Nagri-Gagan cinema junction,” the statement from PWD stated, reported the New Indian Express. Earlier, the PWD had stated that they had already gotten the approval from the environment department, the chief secretary, the environment minister, and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
